Defai Studio

Editorial imagery for skincare brands that deserve better than a phone camera.

Editorial campaigns made entirely with AI — light, surface, texture, mood, built the way a creative studio would build them. The kind of imagery your competitors spend thousands on, made accessible for brands at your stage.

Selected work

Why this exists

Most small skincare brands have a product they're proud of and imagery that doesn't show it. Phone photos, white-backdrop product shots, the occasional flat lay on a marble slab borrowed from Pinterest.

Meanwhile the brands you're competing with — the ones with the campaigns you screenshot for moodboards — have access to a creative process you don't. Art direction. Editorial photographers. Stylists. A small skincare shoot in London runs £3,000 to £8,000 before a single image is approved.

That gap has always existed because editorial imagery has always been expensive. AI changes the maths. The thinking is the same; the production cost isn't.

The thinking

Good editorial imagery isn't about the tool. It's about what you ask of it.

Every image is built from the same questions a creative director would ask on a shoot: where's the light coming from, what's the surface doing, how does the product sit in the frame, what mood are we building. Most AI imagery gives itself away — the waxy skin, the slightly hollow eyes, the flatness. Editorial thinking is what gets you past that. AI is the production method. The art direction is human.

That's the difference between imagery that sells your product and imagery that looks like everyone else's.

Common questions

How fast can you deliver?

Most projects turn around in a few days. The £400 audit is typically delivered within a week of the initial brief. Larger campaigns scale from there — we'll agree timing upfront, not after.

Do I own the images commercially?

Yes. Once the project is paid, you have full commercial rights for advertising, e-commerce, editorial, and social. No usage limits, no royalties, no surprises.

What if I don't have a clear brief?

That's fine — most brands don't. Come with a moodboard, a few reference images, or just your brand and the product. We'll shape the direction together before any imagery is produced.

Can you match my existing brand aesthetic?

Yes. We work from your existing visual identity — colour, mood, tone, references — so the new imagery sits naturally alongside everything else you've already made.
